Children require a special level of care when it comes to rehabilitation. That is why we have a clinic in Tyler devoted solely to pediatric rehabilitation with a dedicated staff to help your child learn to overcome or work with their disabilities.
Physical Therapy
Specialized physical therapy services promote the development of optimal function and movement for children with cerebral palsy, spinal bifidia, muscular dystrophy, congenital and acquired orthopedic problems, as well as other sources of developmental delay. We offer aquatic therapy, serial casting, assessment for custom pediatric equipment such as orthotics, wheelchairs, walkers, and standing equipment. Objective testing and evaluations, to assist with treatment planning and diagnosis, are performed for each child and families are educated in home programs to promote active involvement in therapy. Our therapists have received training in NDT and sensory integration techniques, as well as vestibular rehabilitation, and are members of the pediatrics section of the American Physical Therapy Association. We are also able to accommodate Spanish-only children and parents.
Occupational Therapy
Pediatric Occupational Therapy is concerned with the impact of a movement or learning difficulty with self-help skills, play, leisure, and school life. Occupational Therapy treatment focuses on helping children achieve the highest level of independence and overall quality in all areas of their lives. Occupational Therapists see children with a wide range of difficulties and conditions, including developmental delay, dyspraxia, sensory processing deficits, neurological diagnoses, orthopedic diagnoses, learning difficulties, visual perceptual/visual motor integration problems, degenerative disorders and genetic or chromosomal disorders. Treatment offered includes sensory integration therapy, neurodevelopment therapy, splinting, and adaptive equipment/assistive technology for activities of daily living. We are also able to accommodate Spanish-only speaking children and parents.
Speech-Language Pathology Therapy
Our pediatric speech-language pathology program is designed to provide comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for children ranging from infancy through adolescence. Early intervention is the key to providing children with the best possible therapeutic outcome. The speech-language pathology team members specialize in assessment and treatment of communication, cognitive, hearing, feeding and swallowing problems due to developmental delay, neurological impairment, traumatic brain injury, and various other disorders. Children referred to our program may also have specific language impairments, delays in articulation, voice, fluency, or pragmatics (social language skills), while some may be non-verbal. Computer assisted treatment and augmentative-alternative communications training is also available. We are also able to accommodate Spanish speaking children and parents. All of our speech-language pathologists hold Master's Degrees from accredited universities, Certificates of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association, and state licensure. We are also certified to provide VitalStim Therapy for swallowing disorders in children.
Our sensory room was designed and built with children in mind. The sensory room offers brightly colored characters with variable textures and shapes and many of the features glow in the dark or with a blacklight. There is a built-in box for practicing handwriting on a vertical surface, with an interchangeable face allowing the therapist to utilize a chalkboard, pegboard, or plexiglass to convert the box to a lightbox for practicing handwriting on a vertical surface.
"Wii-hab"
Ellis Rehabilitation Just for Kids was honored to have KLTV Channel 7 conduct an interview with the Occupational Therapy Department regarding the use of the Wii in therapy sessions.
Our therapists at all locations also treat adults with vestibular rehab needs. These include poor balance, vertigo, loss of balance when standing up or leaning forward.
