PEDIATRIC REHAB
TO TOP

Children require a special level of care when it comes to rehabilitation. That is why we have a clinic in Tyler devoted solely to pediatric rehabilitation with a dedicated staff to help your child learn to overcome or work with their disabilities.

Physical Therapy - Specialized physical therapy services promote the development of optimal function and movement for children with cerebral palsy, spinal bifidia, muscular dystrophy, congenital and acquired orthopedic problems, as well as other sources of developmental delay. We offer aquatic therapy, serial casting, assessment for custom pediatric equipment such as orthotics, wheelchairs, walkers, and standing equipment. Objective testing and evaluations, to assist with treatment planning and diagnosis, are performed for each child and families are educated in home programs to promote active involvement in therapy. Our therapists have received training in NDT and sensory integration techniques, as well as vestibular rehabilitation, and are members of the pediatrics section of the American Physical Therapy Association. We are also able to accommodate Spanish-only children and parents.

Speech-Language Pathology Therapy - Our pediatric speech-language pathology program is designed to provide comprehensive diagnostic and treatment services for children ranging from infancy through adolescence. Early intervention is the key to providing children with the best possible therapeutic outcome. The speech-language pathology team members specialize in assessment and treatment of communication, cognitive, hearing, feeding and swallowing problems due to developmental delay, neurological impairment, traumatic brain injury, and various other disorders. Children referred to our program may also have specific language impairments, delays in articulation, voice, fluency, or pragmatics (social language skills), while some may be non-verbal. Computer assisted treatment and augmentative-alternative communications training is also available. We are also able to accommodate Spanish speaking children and parents. All of our speech-language pathologists hold Master's Degrees from accredited universities, Certificates of Clinical Competence (CCC) from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association, and state licensure. We are also certified to provide VitalStim Therapy for swallowing disorders in children.

PHYSICAL THERAPY
TO TOP

The American Physical Therapy Association describes physical therapy as a form of health care that prevents, identifies, corrects, and alleviates acute or prolonged movement dysfunction of anatomic or physiologic origin. The main objective of physical therapy is to promote maximum human health and function.

Physical therapists work in conjunction with your primary care physician to improve movement and function, relieve pain and expand mobility potential. Through continuing evaluation and up to date treatment programs, physical therapists can help existing problems and provide preventive health care for adults and children with a variety of needs.

OCCUPATIONAL THERAPY
TO TOP

Occupational therapy helps to solve problems that interfere with your ability to do things that are important to you. When an injury, illness, disability or other problem limits your ability to take care of yourself, participate in paid or unpaid work, or enjoy your leisure time, such as hobbies, sports, or spending time with family, then you may want to learn some new skills for the job of living from an occupational therapist.

Occupational therapists believe that occupations (activities) describe who you are and how you feel about yourself. If you are unable to do the things you want, or need to do, to live and enjoy your life, your general well-being may be affected. Our team is strongly based in the sensory integration techniques and also has a therapeutic listening program which has shown dramatic results with many children.

SPEECH-LANGUAGE THERAPY
TO TOP

Language is our most human characteristic. It is essential to learning, working, and enjoying family life and friendships. There are many ways to express language. Speaking, using sign language, writing, and using computerized communication devices are some of the most common ones. The professionals who are educated to assess speech and language development and to treat language and speech disorders are speech-language pathologists (sometimes informally refereed to as speech therapists). We now have a Speech-language pathologist who is certified in VitalStim Therapy. VitalStim is revolutionizing dysphagia therapy (for swallowing disorders) with a sucess rate far exceeding results achieved with conventional therapy alone in a majority of patients. AQUATIC EXERCISE CLASSES
TO TOP

Exercising in the water is an excellent means to build strength without irritating your joints. The water offers buoyancy which decreases the stress on your joints while also providing resistance for strength and endurance training.

People with arthritis, acute low back pain, total joint replacements or chronic pain syndrome find water exercises very helpful. These individuals are able to exercise without causing a flare-up. Typically, as they build strength in the water, activities outside of the water become less difficult.

Water exercise and water therapy are two different things. Water therapy is guided by a licensed physical therapist. Typically, it takes place in a warmer pool. The therapist selects the appropriate exercises to correct a specific problem. Water therapy tends to be less vigorous and more individualized. Water exercise is usually lead by an individual trained in aquatic exercise. The class size and the intensity of exercise varies. Water exercise is great for general conditioning and strengthening.

Individual maintenance aquatic exercise is offered at our Grand Saline location. Call for more information: (903) 962-7901
